We stopped here on a recent visit to Mackinaw due to the yelp reviews. I feel like this is one of the first times that Yelp has let me down. I gave it 3 stars because what we experienced was not pleasant at all - but we never got to eating. We ended up walking out. I didn't want to give it lower, because sure maybe the food is fantastic. But I wanted everyone to be able to have the information that we didn't. We pulled up to the building and it looks like someone's house. It is definitely off the beaten path and past some questionable looking hotels. We gave it the benefit of the doubt, due to the reviews. We walked inside (past the AAA approved sign) and were surprised to see that there was exactly 2 people (1 table) inside. It's never a good sign when there is no one eating there. Again, we decided to wait and see due to the glowing reviews. The greeter practically ran to greet us and ushered us to a table. The tables were covered in nice cloth tablecloths with cloth napkins. We sat down and were immediately given water....in dirty glasses. The waitress started by telling us the goblets were just old and scratched, which we understood, but them she looked closer and agreed that 3 of them at our table were actually dirty. She took them away and brought us new ones. We looked at the menu and realized this was not for us. The menu was very limited, mostly with fish. There were no sandwiches/burgers of any sort. The prices were also a little on the steep side. One of the cheapest things on the menu was $15. Steaks were closer to $30. I understand that sometimes things are more expensive, especially when they are high quality. But the lack of choices combined with the dirty glasses (and silverware) we decided to apologize and find somewhere else to eat for dinner.

Broiled whitefish with Cajun spices and baked sweet potatoes were delicious! We were on our honeymoon and our server gave us some great ideas for places to visit. Plus some commemorative pens and calendar. An unexpected personal touch that made our visit more special.

This place is an adventure. Decor is straight out of Mad Men, the setting is Pure Michigan (the huge old birches are great), and the awkward little building it is housed in looks nothing like a restaurant to anyone who hasn't done hard time in northern Michigan. That said--if you come with a palate and appetite geared toward food with flair, you will be disappointed. Everything is pretty straightforward American, though this place is a cut above many options like it in the area. The prices are high for the area. Stick with the local fish! I did not get a chance to try the local smoked porkchops--perhaps they are sublime. I had the potroast, which was flavorful. The waitstaff is practiced and the experience was oddly hilarious (we were there in the second day of the season). Three stars for the food, and an extra star for ambience and moxy.

I'll give it a generous 3--I'm sorry but what is so great about this place? We went there because of the good reviews. No one was even there on a Saturday in the summer. It overlooks a trailer park, the interior isn't exactly glamorous, and the food is at best OK (the salad bar scared us). It was hard not to laugh the whole time we were there unfortunately. The port wine cheese and bread were good. And so was the iced tea, served in NASCAR glasses. I don't know what was more sad: our waitress working on her birthday or that a couple was celebrating a wedding anniversary and brought a limo.

Another year and a visit on our last night in the area. Great martini to start, great salad bar with homemade dressings and the perch dinner was great. My husband had the ribs and said they were OK. Our son's dinner was fine and my sister had onion soup and salad bar. The service is great and the place is a nice change from all the tourist spots. One of my favorites!!

Found this place using yelp and definitely off the beaten path. Had the broiled white fish cajun style and it was excellent. Salad bar was simple but very fresh and homemade dressing was awesome. Love finding restaurants like this and yelp has not let me down yet.

Awsome restaurant. Nice atmosphere and great food. Had their daily special, Smoked Pork Chops and it was perfect. They got their meat from a butcher and it shows. It was cooked just right. Served with a small loaf of warm bread and the salad bar was fresh. I had their homemade Ranch dressing to beat no other. Found out that it is family owned and the mother has had her hand in it for years. The price is moderate and well worth every dollar spent. It's just outside of the main drag of Mackinaw City a couple miles but not out of the way. Well worth the visit. We will be back!

A family tradition for over 20 years, I have never had a bad meal here. The service is outstanding, the atmosphere casual and relaxed, and the food is outstanding. You MUST try the broiled Lake Michigan whitefish--you will not be sorry!
